Why did you become involved in PWC NJ?
After leaving the workforce for 11 years to raise my children, re-entering the construction space I felt the need to connect with strong women in the industry. To help further my network and give back in some way.
What is your favorite part about being a member of PWC NJ?
The community of individuals I have met and continue to create life-long relationships with.
What is the biggest challenge to working in the construction industry?
The biggest challenge in this industry is the volatility and uncertainty related to our market. One day things can be booming, the next the supply chain is disrupted, and big jobs are on hold. It's forever evolving and changing which can be good but in this instance, not so.
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment to date?
My greatest accomplishment is my three children. They are not only contributing members of society, putting in sweat equity every single day but they are good, fine people.
What is the most important skill you have developed in your career?
My communication style I feel is my best skill. I feel it is the most important skill a person can have in any role; lets face it, no matter what you do you are selling, yourself, your company, a service or a product.
Who has been the most influential person in your career?
My husband, always my mentor and coach but always honest whether I like what he has to say or not.
What is your favorite project that you have worked on in your career?
When I was much younger I sold specialty anchors to Tyco for their cable systems that ran across the Indian ocean; that was an amazing experience and it ran approximately 18 months from specification to design to installation.
Why/when did you decide to pursue a career in construction?
I never really decided to, it sort of fell into my lap; my degree is in Marketing. It has been more than 20 years now and I couldn’t see myself in any other industry.
How has your involvement with PWC NJ influenced your career?
It has given me a more confidence in my ability to create opportunities, mentor my team at work and overall share insights and wisdom with those around me.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
If someone offers you help and you need it, take it! Most likely they aren't just saying it, they truly mean it.
What advice would you give to someone looking to become involved in the construction industry?
There is a plethora of opportunities in this industry, such a diverse group of people, companies and roles to fill to help build this world. Jump in feet first and learn as much as you can from as many as you can. Always seek out a mentor and when its your turn, mentor and give back.
What changes to the construction industry have you seen over the span of your career?
There is a new found respect for women in the industry, we have a long way to go but we are definitely moving forward.
